Kundalini Yoga
Kundalini Yoga has been a big part of my life for decades now. I remember going to my first class back in 2001, not because I was drawn to this particular style or knew anything about it, but because it was on "at a convenient time". The Universe was guiding my footsteps even then, and although I really had no idea why I was there, I was struck by its power and how much it improved my breathing and how much better I felt after classes. I did my Teacher Training in 2007 which improved my life for the better in countless ways. I did a 5 year Level 2 a year after completing that training, and went on to both The Mother's Journey, and Mastering the Addictive Personality.
Benefits of Kundalini Yoga
Kundalini Yoga has so many amazing benefits, it’s almost hard to list them all. Physically, it works on your body’s systems especially your endocrine and nervous system, balancing the former and strengthening the latter, so not only does your body work better, you increase your capacity for stress and your tolerance to it. This alone creates a sense of wellbeing in your body as it works better. The Kriyas strengthen you physically, release tension out of your diaphragm and most importantly of all, deepen the connection to your breath so you can be in control of your mind. Learning to meditate helps create stillness and self control which lead to mastery and contentment.
This style of Yoga can be dynamic and fast paced, so helps build endurance. Energetically, it works on aligning the energy centres of the body and channeling the Kundalini energy in the correct channels to raise our consciousness and elevate our frequency. It helps us break addictions, release stored emotions, unsticks patterns of behaviour and helps offload mental stress. It’s also great for strengthening your spine, improves posture, digestion, and a lot of my students say they sleep better too.
Above all, Kundalini Yoga is transformative, empowering and allows for rapid spiritual growth and expansion within a safe framework. The numerous mantras and meditations all have specific applications and are designed to have particular effects, so if we want to work on releasing fear, connecting with our Heart, increasing our self awareness, developing our Neutral Mind and so forth, we can absolutely do that. By working on our whole being, we can become whole; happy, healthy and holy - we are after all, meant to be happy!
